4 eggs
Big dollop hoisan sauce
Dash sesame oil
About 3 tbsp of soy sauce, less sodium
Mix with cooked jasmine rice, pan stir fry. Add peas, carrots, baby corn, or green onion at the end of cooking. Voila! Homemade fried rice that will for sure be tasty! Cut chicken, fry in olive oil, drain, add sauce. I used teriyaki sauce. Simmer in sauce for about 15 minutes. Hoisan sauce and sesame oil came from Strack & VanTil's. About twelve dollars. Chicken came from Save A Lot, approximately ten bucks. Rest came from Aldi's. Total of almost $13.00. Remember, a lot of this can be reused to make many meals, that's where the money saving comes in. 😉
I absolutely love making homemade fried rice because it’s such a versatile and comforting dish. What makes this version stand out is the careful balance of sauces—hoisin sauce adds a hint of sweetness and depth, while the dash of sesame oil gives it that authentic, nutty aroma that instantly reminds me of my favorite Asian takeout dishes. When cooking the fried rice, I found that using jasmine rice adds a wonderful fragrance that pairs beautifully with the savory sauces. Also, adding vegetables like peas, carrots, baby corn, or green onion at the end gives the dish a fresh crunch and colorful presentation—making it not only tasty but visually appealing too. For the teriyaki chicken, frying the chicken in olive oil and then simmering it in teriyaki sauce for about 15 minutes really lets the flavors soak in deeply while keeping the meat tender and juicy. I use less sodium soy sauce to keep the meal heart-healthy without compromising on flavor. One of the biggest benefits of this recipe is its budget-friendliness. Many of the ingredients like hoisin sauce and sesame oil can be purchased once and reused several times, which helps spread the cost out over many meals. Shopping at stores like Save A Lot and Aldi helped me keep the total meal cost to just around $13, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to enjoy delicious, homemade food without overspending. This recipe also invites creativity—if you have leftover cooked veggies or proteins, tossing them in can make new variations every time. Plus, you can easily adjust the amount of soy sauce or the choice of vegetables based on what you have on hand. Overall, this fried rice and teriyaki chicken combo has become my happy place in the kitchen. It’s quick enough for busy weeknights yet delicious enough to serve to guests. If you haven’t tried making fried rice at home before, give this method a go—you might just find your new favorite comfort meal!
