My day job is designing retail stores and providing instructional packets on how to setup their own space. Trying my hand at bedrooms 🥰. More design packets to come! Any suggestions on ideas or themes let me know 😊
When I first started designing a boys' bedroom, I knew the walls had to be more than just a single color. They needed to reflect personality, inspire imagination, and truly make the room pop! That's where creative DIY wall designs come in. It's amazing how much impact a little paint and creativity can have, especially when you're working with a strict budget, much like my under-$500 IKEA challenge. Transforming plain walls into something special doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. The key is to think strategically about color and pattern. For instance, an accent wall is an incredibly easy entry point into wall design. Imagine using a bold green or vibrant orange paint, like the quart paints I used, on just one wall behind the bed or bookcase. This instantly adds depth and a focal point to the room without overwhelming the space. If you're feeling adventurous, combining colors can create a truly unique look. One of my favorite techniques for boys' rooms is creating geometric patterns. All you really need is some blue painters tape, a paint roller, and a good paint brush – all essential supplies from my project list. You can tape off stripes, chevrons, or even abstract shapes. Think about using a darker shade, like black or brown paint, as a base for some areas and then layering green and orange within taped-off sections. This creates a dynamic, modern feel that kids absolutely love. For example, a crisp black stripe across a neutral wall, or a playful pattern of interlocking green and orange triangles, can really elevate the room's aesthetic. Another simple yet effective idea is to incorporate stencils for themed elements. While a full mural might be daunting, a few well-placed stenciled stars, mountains, or even simple shapes using black or brown paint can tie into a broader room theme. The beauty of these DIY projects is that they are highly customizable and relatively low-cost, especially when compared to wallpaper or professional art. You’re essentially creating bespoke art on the largest canvas in the room – the walls! These wall designs also provide the perfect backdrop for your IKEA finds. A brightly painted accent wall can make a minimalist IKEA bed frame or book case stand out. Imagine a fun green wall behind the cloud light, making it truly pop! The orange and green storage bins you might pick up from IKEA can then tie into your wall colors, creating a cohesive and well-thought-out design that feels intentional, not just assembled. Even the wooden hook rack can become part of a functional wall display by painting the wall behind it in a contrasting color or pattern. By focusing on smart, budget-friendly wall designs, you can achieve a high-impact bedroom makeover without breaking the bank.

Anyone has any suggestions on another design that I can do? IE specific themes or stores to buy from ?
