One key step I've incorporated is using gentle, non-comedogenic moisturizers that lock in moisture without clogging pores. Products containing ingredients like hyaluronic acid and niacinamide have helped maintain hydration and reduce inflammation. I also avoid heavy creams that can exacerbate oiliness and instead opt for lightweight gels or emulsions. Another tip is to limit harsh exfoliation, which can strip natural oils and trigger even more oil production. Instead, a mild chemical exfoliant with salicylic acid once or twice a week helps keep pores clear and prevent acne flare-ups without damaging the skin barrier. Sunscreen remains important even in winter to protect from UV damage, but I choose oil-free, mattifying formulas designed for oily skin to avoid excess shine. Finally, a consistent nightly routine including gentle cleansing, hydrating serums, and targeted acne treatments has improved my skin’s overall hydration and health, making it less reactive during cold months.
