Apps I used living in S.Korea!🥰✨🫶

Here are 5 apps that I used constantly while living in South Korea.

1.KakaoTalk

I used this app to talk to friends that I made here and some of my coteachers. Most importantly, it's also how I got some bill information.

2. KakaoTaxi

This is a similar service to Uber/lyft. I also loved how in general I could use my card or Samsung pay in taxis instead of cash.

3. coupang

I used this app more often instead of Amazon. I could get my groceries delivered (esp. when I first arrived and had to quarantine). I also was able to buy skincare products, clothes, etc from the app.

4.Papago

If you don't speak Korean, then this app can be very helpful to communicate. Sometimes, I just can't pronounce things correctly, so this helped me. There's also a conversation feature, so it helped when someone was talking faster than I could understand.

5. Line

I used this for work only, but it was a way to communicate with different people at work without having to give out phone numbers.

6. Baemin

I used this app to deliver food. It's easy to figure out after using it a couple of times. it's similar to Uber eats or doordash except you can't really track your order 🥲. but i ordered from like the same places all the time haha. one of the store managers would just text me like " this you?"

... Read moreThe apps mentioned above are absolutely crucial for getting by in South Korea, covering communication, transport, and daily shopping essentials. But beyond these practical tools, there's a whole world of other 'most used apps' that truly immerse you in Korean culture and make life even more enjoyable! While TikTok is a global phenomenon, Koreans also have their own vibrant social media landscape. If you're searching for 'Korean apps like TikTok' for short-form video content, you'll find many locals actively using Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. These platforms are incredibly popular for sharing quick vlogs, dance challenges, fashion hauls, and daily snippets. Beyond short videos, other popular social apps include Naver BAND, which is fantastic for joining interest groups, clubs, or even community-based discussions, acting like a localized version of Facebook Groups. It’s an excellent way to connect with people who share your hobbies or live in your neighborhood, making it a truly useful 'most used app' for building local connections. One category of apps I quickly learned I couldn't live without for general exploration was navigation. While KakaoTaxi gets you around, for walking, public transport, or even driving, KakaoMap and Naver Map are indispensable. They offer incredibly detailed public transport routes, real-time bus and subway information, and walking directions that Google Maps often can't match in Korea. Trust me, learning to use one of these will save you so much time and stress navigating the cities! Speaking of public transport, dedicated subway apps like KakaoMetro or Seoul Subway (if you're in the capital) provide real-time train schedules, transfer information, and even estimated arrival times, making your commute seamless. They're a game-changer for understanding the intricate subway system. For entertainment, beyond just communication, if you're looking for Korean dramas, variety shows, or movies, local streaming services like TVING or Wavve are incredibly popular. Of course, global giants like Netflix also have a massive presence and often feature a wealth of Korean content. Having access to these can be a great way to improve your Korean listening skills and understand local pop culture! Finally, enhancing your mobile payment experience is key. While KakaoPay allows for easy payments, getting familiar with the broader KakaoPay or Naver Pay ecosystems means you can easily pay for almost anything with your phone, manage loyalty points, and even split bills. These are deeply integrated into daily transactions and make life incredibly convenient. Exploring these additional 'most used apps' will truly round out your digital toolkit for living in South Korea, helping you connect, navigate, and enjoy local life to the fullest!
