People Saw Me Functioning. They Didn’t See This.

6/11 Edited to

... Read moreLiving with PTSD is often misunderstood because the struggles aren’t always visible to others. Many people only see the surface — how I appeared to function normally — but they don’t perceive the panic attacks, the silence of overwhelming fear, or the constant worry about losing control. This invisible battle shaped my world in ways people couldn’t imagine. One of the most challenging aspects was the fear itself, which became a trauma. Fear of having another panic attack made me avoid activities that used to bring me joy or felt safe, such as driving or being alone. It’s important to understand that PTSD doesn’t just stem from the initial traumatic event but can grow from the ongoing anxiety and physical responses our minds and bodies endure afterward. For months, I felt trapped, watching others move on with their lives while I was stuck in a cycle of fear and doubt. I constantly questioned if I would ever feel normal again or enjoy peace. But healing didn’t come suddenly — it was a gradual process that required patience, self-compassion, and faith. In my journey, spirituality played a vital role. I believe that God’s support helped me through moments I thought would break me. It's okay to have bad days and still keep moving forward. Sharing my experience is meant to give hope to anyone else battling PTSD or anxiety. Healing is possible, even if it’s hard to see at the start. If you or someone you know is struggling, remember that you are not alone. Seeking therapy, talking to trusted friends or support groups, and building coping skills step by step can make a difference. Embracing vulnerability can open doors to true healing and reconnect you with the life you want to live.
