... Read moreOMG, you guys, I recently rediscovered my love for camarones empapelados and tilapia empapelada, and I just HAVE to share my go-to recipe. Seriously, if you're looking for an easy, flavorful, and healthy dinner, this tilapia y camarones combo cooked in foil is an absolute winner. It's become a staple in my kitchen because it's virtually foolproof and tastes incredible every single time. My friends always ask me for this camarones empapelados recipe! What I love most about pescado empapelado con camarones is how customizable it is. You can literally throw in whatever veggies you have on hand, and it always comes out perfectly steamed and infused with all the delicious seasonings. It’s like a little flavor bomb waiting to explode when you open the foil packet. Plus, cleanup is a breeze – practically no dishes! That’s a huge win in my book after a long day. Let me walk you through how I make my amazing filete empapelado con camarones (and sometimes I sneak in some cheese, shhh!). My Favorite Tilapia & Camarones Empapelados Recipe! Ingredients: 2 large tilapia fillets (about 6-8 oz each) 1 lb medium shrimp, peeled and deveined 1 bell pepper (any color), thinly sliced 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced 2 cloves garlic, minced 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped 2 tbsp olive oil 1 lime, cut into wedges Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste 1 tsp paprika (smoked paprika is even better!) 1/2 tsp cumin Optional: 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack or cheddar cheese (for a filete de pescado con camarones y queso twist!) Aluminum foil Instructions: Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Tear off two large pieces of aluminum foil, about 18 inches long each. Lightly grease the center of each foil sheet with a little olive oil or cooking spray. Season the Seafood: In a medium bowl, gently toss the shrimp with 1 tbsp olive oil, half the minced garlic, half the cilantro, salt, pepper, paprika, and cumin. In another bowl, season the tilapia fillets with the remaining olive oil, garlic, cilantro, salt, pepper, paprika, and cumin. Assemble the Packets: Place one tilapia fillet in the center of each foil sheet. Arrange half of the sliced bell pepper and red onion around and on top of each fillet. Scatter half of the seasoned shrimp over the veggies and fish. If you're adding cheese, sprinkle it generously over everything now. Seal & Bake: Bring the long sides of the foil together over the food and fold them down tightly to seal. Then, fold in the short ends to create a completely sealed packet. Make sure there are no gaps for steam to escape! Place the foil packets on a baking sheet. Cook to Perfection: Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the tilapia is flaky and the shrimp are pink and cooked through. The cooking time might vary slightly depending on the thickness of your fish and shrimp size. Serve & Enjoy: Carefully open each packet (watch out for the steam!). Squeeze a fresh lime wedge over your delicious camaron tilapia and garnish with extra fresh cilantro. These empapelados de camaron are amazing served with a side of rice or a simple green salad. Pro Tips for the Best Empapelados: Don't Overcrowd: Make sure you don't overfill your foil packets. Give the ingredients enough space to steam evenly. Experiment with Veggies: Broccoli florets, zucchini slices, corn, or even diced tomatoes work wonderfully in these packets. Spice it Up: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little kick! Other Fish Options: While tilapia is great, this method works perfectly with cod, snapper, or even salmon for a different recetas con tilapia filete style. I promise, once you try this camaron empapelado and tilapia recipe, it'll be on your regular rotation. It's truly one of the most satisfying recetas caseras I know!
