Book Review: Wildfire

Book name: Wildfire (2nd book out of 3 in the Maple Hills series).

Author: Hannah Grace

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Intro: It’s about this pair of college kids, Aurora and Russ, they have a one night stand. They then go to camp, thinking that they will never see each other again but they do— at camp. They’re put into the same group. The rules at the camp is very strict: 1) no dating/ seeing someone in camp 2) no drinking or other substances (which make sense because it’s a summer camp where they’re looking after kiddos).

My rating: 5/5 ⭐️

My review: I loved this book so much HOWEVER I love Icebreaker, written by Hannah Grace, more. I do love the character development, in which I’ll go into further details in the spoiler alert section. I love how it was funny, romantic, but also touched on heartbreaking stuff like addiction to gambling and alcohol, as well as parent issues. My book is filled with annotations of things I found romantic and funny but also things I found sad that I could (kind of) relate to (like how Aurora likes to have children around her because she likes that kind of attention and no one else in her family is like that with her). I would 💯 pick this up the next time you’re in Walmart because it’s so good. I’m reading this again sometime soon.

⚠️SPOILER ALERT⚠️ (don’t read unless you’ve read or you just don’t care): The character development I loved was that Rory actually talked with her telling her dad and told him off about being in the wedding, and her mom AND sister (Elsa) actually agreeing with her. I love how Russ eventually told Rory everything about his dad/family problems (after Rory already figured it out) and that he didn’t shut her out. They talked through it like a healthy couple should and that was basically the end of it. ALSO HOW DID THEY NOT GET CAUGHT SOONER?? Like Jenna saw the night of the storm (she said that when Russ was talking to her in her office) but like if they’re always together wouldn’t that be a sign??

... Read moreOkay, so you've heard 'Wildfire' by Hannah Grace is a must-read, but let's be real, many of you are here for one thing: the spice! 😉 I totally get it. After devouring this second book in the Maple Hills series, I can confirm it delivers on the romantic tension and steamy moments. If you're wondering about the 'spice level,' I'd say it's a solid 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5. It’s not just about explicit scenes; it’s the intense build-up, the secret glances, and the undeniable chemistry between Aurora and Russ that makes your heart race. For those looking for specific 'spicy chapters' or 'spicy pages,' while I won't pinpoint exact page numbers (because part of the fun is discovering them yourself!), trust me, they are woven throughout their forbidden camp romance. Think late-night encounters, intense flirtation during shared activities, and the sheer angst of 'secret dating' when rules are strict. The 'forced proximity' trope is chef's kiss here, making every stolen moment feel even more charged. The OCR even picked up on sweet 'flirting' and moments of 'Russ looking at Rory' with such yearning – that's the kind of spice I live for! Beyond the heat, 'Wildfire' truly shines in its character development and emotional depth. While the explicit scenes are there, Hannah Grace doesn't shy away from heavier topics, which is something I deeply appreciate. As my main review mentioned, it touches on 'mental health rep w/ family problems,' addiction, and parental issues, giving Aurora and Russ's story a genuine, relatable foundation. This isn't just fluffy romance; it's a story about healing and growing together, even when the world (or camp rules) tries to pull you apart. The humor, which the OCR also highlighted in 'humorous dialogue,' balances out the emotional weight beautifully. Speaking of the 'Maple Hills series books,' 'Wildfire' absolutely holds its own after 'Icebreaker.' While you could technically read it as a standalone, I highly recommend reading 'Icebreaker' first to fully appreciate the author's style and the broader universe. Each book in the series explores different characters but maintains that signature Hannah Grace blend of humor, heart, and undeniable chemistry. It’s exciting to see how Hannah Grace builds this interconnected world. While 'Wildfire' focuses on Aurora and Russ, there are subtle nods to characters from 'Icebreaker,' enriching the overall experience for fans of the series. Each book feels fresh and unique, yet distinctly part of the Maple Hills charm. It makes you want to dive into the whole collection! So, if you're looking for a romantic comedy with a good dose of spice, compelling characters, and a heartfelt story that tackles real-life issues, don't walk, run to pick up 'Wildfire.' It's a 5/5 read for me, and I can't wait to re-read it and find all those sweet and spicy hidden gems again. You won't be disappointed!
