One tip I found really helps achieve that perfect flakiness is to keep your butter cold and handle the dough minimally. Cutting chilled butter into the flour rather than melting it preserves little pockets of butter that create steam while baking, making the biscuits rise beautifully and develop those delicate layers. Another trick that worked well for me is to use buttermilk instead of regular milk. The acidity helps tenderize the dough, resulting in biscuits that are both fluffy and flavorful. Also, when rolling out the dough, fold it a couple of times and gently roll again to build layers. This technique adds an extra flaky texture which is hard to beat. For baking, I always preheat my oven fully and bake the biscuits on a hot tray. This ensures they get that golden brown color on the bottom and a wonderful crust. Fresh out of the oven, spreading a bit of extra butter while they’re still warm makes them even more irresistible. These homemade flaky butter biscuits are perfect served with breakfast, alongside soups, or as a snack with jam or honey. Making biscuits from scratch can seem intimidating, but once you master these simple methods, it's incredibly rewarding and delicious every time.
