My first pop up mistakes as an entrepreneur

Our first pop-up was generally a success. We sent a partiful and 80% of people showed up, everyone was excited to be there, we got a lot of content. But I also learned a LOT.

Here’s what I’d do differently next time:

1. I didn’t have a social media strategy

People were filming, tagging, sharing… and I had no CTA, QR code, or branded moment for them to link back to us. We missed a huge opportunity to gain new followers + build momentum online.

2. I booked entertainment too late

We had a drummer pull up halfway through—amazing vibes, but I wish I’d had him there earlier to kick off the energy. Set the tone early!

3. It was a Monday night... mistake.

Everyone had work the next day, so by 9 PM the crowd started thinning. Next time: Friday or Saturday, always.

Additionally, planning the timing of entertainment is crucial. Having performers or engaging activities from the start helps set a lively tone and keeps your audience engaged throughout the event. Remember, the timing can greatly influence the flow and energy of your pop-up. Another aspect to consider is the day of the week your event takes place. Popular choices like Friday or Saturday attract more attendees, as people are often more willing to attend events on weekends. Understanding your target audience’s schedule is vital for maximizing attendance. In conclusion, learning from these mistakes can lead to greater success in your future events. Ensuring a robust online presence, timely entertainment, and selecting the right day to host your pop-up can turn a good event into a memorable one.
