... Read moreChinese New Year, or 春节 (Chun Jie), is a time for family reunions and traditions. One of the most cherished customs is the giving of 红包 (Hong Bao), or red envelopes, which symbolize good luck and prosperity. Families prepare a 元宝 (Yuan Bao), representing wealth, to decorate their homes. The 发财树 (Fa Cai Shu), or fortune tree, is also significant for bringing fortune. In preparation for the New Year, homes are cleaned to sweep away bad luck. It’s a time to honor ancestors and bring good fortune for the year ahead. Festive meals are prepared, comprising symbolic foods, each with a meaning. For example, fish represents surplus, whereas dumplings signify wealth. Engaging in these customs deepens familial bonds and unites communities, preserving cultural heritage for future generations.
