Spending a beautiful day on the farm with your horses can be both relaxing and fulfilling. From personal experience, one of the most rewarding parts of horse care is the daily brushing. It not only keeps their coat shiny and clean but also helps you bond with your horse. When brushing, I like to start with a curry comb to loosen dirt and hair, followed by softer brushes to smooth the coat. Feeding is another crucial element of horse care. Putting out hay provides the bulk of their nutrition, especially during times when pasture grazing is limited. Quality hay must be free from mold and dust to keep horses healthy. I usually spread the hay evenly to avoid competition among horses, ensuring each gets their share. Engaging in these farm tasks, such as grooming and feeding, also allows you to observe your horses closely. You can notice any changes in behavior, weight, or coat condition early on, which is vital for timely health interventions.
