Why Luka Won’t Get MVP

However, when it comes to securing the MVP award, individual brilliance alone isn't always enough. From my experience following the NBA closely, the MVP selection often hinges on a few critical factors beyond personal achievements. One major aspect is team success. Luka’s team struggles, especially if they face a losing streak, seriously affect his MVP chances. For example, it’s commonly said that a player’s MVP candidacy weakens if they lose multiple games in a row, as the award often favors those contributing to top-ranked teams. Luka being on a team with a subpar record or in a challenging environment like the current Lakers atmosphere—where expectations and pressures run high—can dampen perceptions of his value. Additionally, the MVP race is heavily influenced by narratives and the timing of peak performances. Players who help their teams clinch key wins late in the season or lead dramatic turnarounds often gain favor among voters. Even if Luka’s individual stats are stellar, the final MVP votes reflect a mix of stats, leadership, and how much a player's contributions are viewed as transforming their team’s success. From what I’ve observed, while Luka is undeniably “doing amazing” and remains one of the best players right now, the lack of a consistent winning streak and the Lakers’ current struggles create hurdles for his MVP campaign. Therefore, recognizing how the league prioritizes 'winning impact' alongside personal excellence is crucial to understanding why Luka might not get the MVP this season despite his talent and effort.
