Eat your carbs

5/23 Edited to

... Read moreWhen cutting calories, the choice of carbohydrate sources can significantly affect both energy levels and satiety. From my experience, incorporating slow-digesting carbs like oats has been a game-changer. Oats keep me feeling full much longer due to their high soluble fiber, which also supports heart health. I usually eat them 1.5 to 2 hours before my post-workout meal to sustain energy. On the other hand, quick carbs such as white rice or rice cakes are really useful right after workouts to rapidly replenish glycogen, though they offer minimal nutrients and aren’t very filling on their own. Pairing them with proteins or healthy fats helps me maintain fullness. Fruits like bananas and berries are excellent for a quick energy boost and come with health benefits and fiber to keep hunger at bay. Berries, especially, are low-calorie but packed with nutrients and antioxidants, making them ideal for snacking. Hydrating carbs such as watermelon and coconut water provide volume and valuable electrolytes, aiding hydration and blood flow during workouts. Watermelon’s high water content means it’s incredibly refreshing and helpful when cutting calories. Honey, while calorie-dense, can be an elite carb source when combined with other carbs due to its health benefits. However, by itself, it lacks satiety, so I recommend using it sparingly. Overall, balancing carb sources based on their digestion rate, satiation, and nutrient content can help you stay energized and satisfied while cutting. Experimenting with these diverse options allows more enjoyable and effective fat loss journeys.
