Since you're keen to know more about my special granddog, Loki, I'm excited to share some deeper insights into what truly makes him tick! He's not just a cute face; he's a bundle of unique personality traits wrapped up in a beautiful Border Collie mix, and he has some very specific preferences when it comes to 'lokie treats' that keep him happy and engaged. Let's talk about Loki's personality first. As a Border Collie mix, he embodies a lot of the classic traits you'd expect: incredibly intelligent, highly energetic, and always eager to have a 'job'. We often joke about his 'herding' instincts, which aren't just limited to our goats! He tries to herd anything and anyone, sometimes even us! This strong drive means he thrives on mental stimulation. If he doesn't get enough, that's when his mischievous side comes out – like when he's 'chewing up paper towel rolls' or 'finding random objects to carry around' with such pride. It's his way of telling us he needs more engagement! He's also incredibly observant, which I think contributes to his 'mouse hunting with Val' hobby. He's got keen senses and a natural curiosity that keeps him exploring every nook and cranny. Despite his energetic nature, he's also incredibly affectionate and loyal, always wanting to be close by and offer a comforting nudge or a happy wag of his tail. His silly antics and playful spirit truly light up our home. Now, onto the fun part: 'lokie treats'! While 'Pork Chomps' are undeniably his reigning favorite, a true staple in our household, it's not the only way we keep his treat-loving heart happy. He absolutely goes wild for those Pork Chomps, and I think it's because they offer a satisfying chew that helps with his natural urge to gnaw, keeping his teeth clean too. But beyond his number one pick, we’ve discovered a few other treats that rank high on his list. For training sessions, especially when we're reinforcing good behavior or teaching new tricks, small, soft, high-value treats work wonders. Think tiny pieces of cooked chicken or cheese – those really get his attention and make him focus. We also incorporate healthier, natural snacks into his diet. Crunchy carrots or apple slices (without the core and seeds, of course!) are fantastic for a quick, nutritious bite. He loves the crunch! Sometimes, we even make our own homemade dog biscuits with ingredients like peanut butter and oats. It’s a fun way to control what he’s eating and ensure he’s only getting the good stuff. Using a variety of treats helps keep him interested and makes training more engaging. It’s all about finding what motivates your unique pup and incorporating it into their daily routine in a healthy, balanced way.
