Safe Swap Series: Things I Stopped Using as a New
As a new mom, I started paying attention to the little things in our home.
Not because I was scared.
But because I wanted to be more intentional.
These are a few things I quietly moved away from over time.
No judgment. Just learning and adjusting as I go 🤍
If you’re curious what I switched to, comment below or it’s linked in my bio.

When I first became a mom, I realized that even the small choices in our daily routine mattered more than before—especially around cleaning and household products. For example, I stopped using dishwasher pods that contained bleach and strong fragrances, as these can leave residues harmful to sensitive skin or little hands that often touch dishes. Instead, I switched to milder, fragrance-free detergents that still get the job done without overwhelming scents or harsh chemicals. Similarly, disinfecting wipes and multi-purpose cleaners often contain eye irritants and allergens, which made me rethink their everyday use. I now reserve these stronger disinfectants for specific occasions, like when someone is ill, and use gentler products infused with natural ingredients for regular cleaning. This change helped reduce the chemical load in my home and made the environment feel safer. Glass cleaners with ammonia were also on my list to replace. Their strong odors can be overwhelming, and constant exposure isn’t ideal for little ones. I found that simpler, streak-free formulas without harsh ammonia offered a better option for weekly cleaning. Laundry detergent was another area for change—I chose options free of heavy fragrances and harsh chemicals since clothes are in direct contact with skin all day long. These swaps collectively contributed to a more intentional, cleaner, and non-toxic home environment. As a mom, I found that paying close attention and making these safer swaps isn't about fear but about creating a nurturing space. If you’re curious about specific product recommendations or other swaps that have worked well, feel free to ask—I’m happy to share what I’ve learned!
