Things I didn’t expect 6 months Postpartum
6 months postpartum and I feel like I’m still figuring everything out 🤍
no one really talks about this stage
when they’re not a newborn anymore but still need you for everything
some days feel easy
some days feel like survival mode
and somehow you’re just expected to keep up with everything else too
still learning how to take care of me while taking care of her 🫶🏽

Six months postpartum often brings a stage that many new mothers find unexpectedly challenging—the baby is no longer a newborn but still entirely dependent, making the balance between motherhood and personal life complex. From my experience, one of the toughest things was how fast my baby started moving around—it felt like I was constantly chasing after her. This new mobility meant that "getting ready" some days felt optional because survival mode took over. As a full-time working mom, I also hadn't anticipated the constant struggle with pumping and the emotional toll it takes. Pumping isn’t just a task; it feels like an emergency procedure sometimes, with the added pressure of keeping up milk supply amid a busy schedule. The exhaustion can be overwhelming, and it’s challenging to find time for the things that once defined "me." Another unexpected reality was the emotional juggling act. There’s this silent expectation to handle everything flawlessly: work responsibilities, baby care, household duties, and still somehow maintain your own well-being. But in truth, many days felt like just getting through was an achievement. What helped me was learning to be kinder to myself, accepting that some days are just not our best days, and that's okay. I also started to embrace the idea that self-care doesn’t have to look perfect or take a long time. Even fitting in a few quiet moments or a short walk became vital for my mental health. Sharing these honest moments with other moms in similar situations made a huge difference—it lessens the isolation many feel during this stage. Ultimately, the journey 6 months postpartum is about continuous learning and adapting. It’s about recognizing that while the baby still needs you for everything, you also need space to rediscover and care for yourself. Finding this balance is key to surviving and thriving in this beautiful yet demanding phase of motherhood.
