It didn’t get easier.. so now I just work less and how fortunate I am that I can do that !! Typically work 1-2 days a week and hope eventually it’ll never be more than 1. 🙏 #nurse #workingmom #nurseandmom #mommorning #morningvlog @Chobani
Working as a nurse while raising a toddler is undeniably challenging, and I’ve found that the key to managing both roles effectively is prioritizing balance and flexibility. Preparing for my lengthy 10.5-hour nurse shifts involves not only physical readiness but also mental preparation—knowing that whatever happens at work, I'm also a mom waiting at home. One strategy I’ve adopted is reducing my working days to just 1-2 per week, which has been a game changer for me. This limited schedule helps preserve my energy and allows me to engage more fully when I’m with my child, avoiding burnout from being stretched too thin. It's not always easy—there are days the workload at the hospital feels overwhelming, and the toddler's needs are nonstop—but working less means I can regroup and recharge in between shifts. Meal prepping has become an essential part of my routine, too. On my off days, I like to prepare simple dishes, like pasta, that are quick and nutritious for busy mornings or evenings. This helps ease the morning rush and ensures that my family gets wholesome meals without added stress. I also rely on a morning routine vlog to keep me motivated and organized, sharing glimpses of my mom mornings and nurse shifts with others in the same boat. Engaging with supportive communities of working moms and nurses online has provided encouragement and practical tips that make balancing these demanding roles feel a little more achievable. Ultimately, the goal is to find a sustainable rhythm where work complements life instead of overwhelming it. Being fortunate enough to have the flexibility to reduce hours has allowed me to cherish motherhood while continuing my passion for nursing. I’m hopeful that eventually, my workweek will be even lighter—ideally just one day—so I can fully embrace both parts of my identity without compromise.
