Spring is here, and it’s time to wake your RV from its long winter nap!
But before you hit the road, you NEED to de-winterize properly—or you could end up dealing with nasty surprises like contaminated water, dead batteries, or even burst pipes.
De-winterizing is about more than just flushing out antifreeze. Here’s what you need to do:
✔️ Flush the water system: Run clean water through every faucet, shower, and outdoor spigot until there’s no trace of antifreeze.
✔️ Sanitize your fresh water tank: Bacteria can grow over the winter! Use a bleach solution or RV-safe sanitizer to clean it.
✔️ Check your water heater: Make sure the bypass valve is closed before running water through the system.
✔️ Inspect for leaks: Look for any drips under sinks, near the water pump, or outside around hose connections.
✔️ Check your batteries: A dead battery = no power for your lights, appliances, and slides. Test the voltage and charge if needed.
✔️ Test your propane system: Leaks are a major safety hazard. Use soapy water on the connections—if you see bubbles, you’ve got a leak!
