And if you're looking for something a bit more active on land, renting a scooter or a jeep to explore the undeveloped east side of the island is a blast. You'll find rustic beach bars, stunning natural blowholes, and a completely different vibe away from the bustling cruise ship ports. Don't forget to wander through San Miguel, Cozumel's main town. It's charming with colorful buildings, local shops selling handicrafts, and fantastic restaurants. I always look for the small, family-run eateries for authentic Mexican food – the cochinita pibil tacos are a must-try! And if you're into history, the San Gervasio Mayan ruins offer a glimpse into the island's ancient past. It's not as grand as Chichen Itza, but it's a peaceful and insightful visit.
