Ketamine vs. Etomidate
#lemon8challenge #lemon8badgehunt
💉 this vs that thursday
ketamine vs etomidate for RSI
this is one of the most common decisions we make…
and one of the most misunderstood
👉 no mortality difference
BUT the difference is in what happens right after induction
• etomidate → more reliable hemodynamic stability
• ketamine → less adrenal suppression, but ↑ risk of peri-intubation instability
⚠️ important nuance:
the idea that ketamine “supports blood pressure”
doesn’t consistently hold in critically ill patients
especially in catecholamine-depleted states (shock/sepsis)
👀 slide 5 is the one you’ll come back to
bottom line:
choose based on the patient’s physiology—not the myth
save this—you’ll definitely need it
