Going Out In Downtown Detroit

We stopped at Temple Bar in Detroit and had a great time. Temple Bar gets its name from being right next to the Masonic Temple, a large performance venue in Detroit.

It’s a bar that was also featured on the Comedy Central show The Detroiters and has a friendly, intimate vibe. It was great to see it packed and they even had Mike Clark, one of the founding fathers of Techno, playing when we got there. My brother, who also DJs with his wife under the name Deeper Waters, also played! 😁

Temple Bar is a little off the main path but I feel it very much has that “Detroit vibe”.

If you're looking for an authentic spot that truly embodies the city's spirit, this is it. From the moment I approached, the exterior with its vibrant neon signs and colorful glass block windows promised a lively evening, even at 11:00 PM. It really sets a vibrant night scene for going out. Stepping inside, you're immediately enveloped in a distinctly intimate atmosphere. The entire space is often bathed in a warm red light, giving it a cozy yet energetic feel. It’s definitely a smaller space, which contributes to that incredibly chill vibe, making it easy to feel connected to everyone around you. I even spotted a classic arcade game like Donkey Kong tucked away in a corner – such a cool, unexpected touch that adds to the bar's unique character! What truly makes Temple Bar shine as a dance & night club is its incredible music scene. This isn't just any bar; it’s steeped in Detroit’s rich musical history. On my visit, we were lucky enough to catch Mike Clark, a true techno artist and one of the founding fathers of the genre, playing a set. Hearing that kind of legendary talent in such an intimate setting on a Friday night was absolutely electrifying. The music was fantastic, creating the perfect backdrop for a memorable crowd night. The place was packed, but it never felt overwhelming, just a buzzing, friendly energy. Everyone was there to enjoy the great music and the company. You'll find a diverse mix of people, all soaking in the unique atmosphere that only Detroit can offer. Beyond the music, Temple Bar has a charm that's hard to replicate. Located right next to the iconic Masonic Temple, it’s a place with stories. It even made an appearance on Comedy Central’s 'The Detroiters,' which just adds to its legendary status. If you’re planning a visit, I’d highly recommend checking out their schedule for special DJ nights. While it’s a little off the main path, that’s part of its allure – it feels like a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Dress comfortably, be ready to mingle, and just soak in that genuine, unpretentious Detroit vibe. For anyone wanting a true taste of Detroit's nightlife, for an authentic experience rather than a generic club, Temple Bar is an absolute must-visit. It's more than just a bar; it's a piece of Detroit's living history, offering a fantastic blend of great tunes, a lively crowd, and an unforgettable night out.
