Weirdo Gremlin
Whoever said reptiles don't have personality is a liar. LAIR. I've heard so many people say something along the lines of that and I just don't believe it.
See my girl, she has what I can only call sass. I have a misting setup connected to her tank (separated with mesh so no accidents) and she will do this thing where when she wants it turned on she'll sit under it and chirp. If I don't listen she comes over to me and stares into my very soul.
Once I turn it on she happily climbs over and will sit under the mist spray, periodically shifting to get her body covered in a light bit of water before licking herself over and over (what I assume is a self cleaning behavior?)
But she also likes to just stick her head under (as shown in the video) and lick the misty water straight out of the air (she is not dehydrated, regardless of when I turn the machine on I spray her tank down daily and she has a water bowl)
She's just a weirdo with a very blatant personality 😂😂😂 I love her though, wouldn't trade her for anything ❤️

It's a common belief that reptiles are cold-blooded in personality as well as physiology, but as a crested gecko owner, I can wholeheartedly tell you that couldn't be further from the truth! While they might not greet you with wagging tails like a dog, crested geckos absolutely have distinct personalities and ways of interacting with their environment and even their owners. For example, my own 'gremlin' gecko has such unique quirks. I've learned to read her subtle cues – from the way she chirps for her misting system to her dramatic stares when she wants something. These aren't just random behaviors; they're her way of communicating. Many owners report similar experiences: some geckos are bold and curious, always exploring their tanks, while others are shy and prefer to hide, only venturing out when the house is quiet. Some are more tolerant of handling, patiently walking from hand to hand, while others are more skittish and prefer to be admired from afar. It’s all part of their individual charm and what makes them such fascinating companions! Regarding the question of whether crested geckos are affectionate or recognize their owners, it’s a bit different from how mammals show it. They won't cuddle, but many geckos learn to associate their owner's presence with positive things – the arrival of tasty food, a refreshing misting session, or even just a safe, familiar presence during tank maintenance. I've personally noticed my gecko sometimes comes to the front of her tank when I approach, especially around feeding time, and will calmly sit on my hand for a few minutes, which I interpret as a form of trust and recognition. It's not necessarily 'love' in the human sense, but it's a bond based on comfort, security, and familiarity. They might not remember your face, but they can definitely learn your scent and routines. To encourage this bond and bring out your crested gecko's unique personality, consistency in care is absolutely key. Regular feeding schedules, appropriate habitat conditions (like proper humidity and temperature, which often involves daily misting!), and gentle, consistent handling can make a huge difference. When handling, always be slow and deliberate so you don't startle them, and keep sessions short, especially when they are young. Providing a rich environment with plenty of climbing branches, live or artificial plants, and hides also allows them to express natural behaviors like climbing, jumping, and investigating, which in turn helps you understand their preferences and activity levels. Observing these intricate behaviors is how you truly get to know your unique little friend and appreciate their individual quirks. Don't forget the importance of their diet too! A balanced diet of commercial crested gecko diet and occasional insect treats (like crickets or dubia roaches dusted with calcium) keeps them healthy and energetic, further contributing to their overall well-being and willingness to explore and interact. Proper nutrition ensures they have the energy to display their vibrant personalities. So, next time you hear someone say reptiles lack personality, just think of my sassy crested gecko and countless others. They're not just scaled creatures; they're tiny, fascinating individuals with their own moods, preferences, and even demands! It's an incredibly rewarding experience to watch their personalities unfold and learn to understand their unique language.
