dance recital day! 🕺
Okay, fellow moms, recital day is a whirlwind, right? Between getting snacks ready, finding all the tiny sparkly shoes, and making sure everyone's costume is pristine, sometimes our own 'getting ready with me' routine gets totally sidelined! But let's be real, the true stars of the show are our amazing dancers, and perfecting their hair is half the battle. For my kids' dance recital, I've learned a few go-to hairstyles that are not only stage-proof but also surprisingly easy to achieve, even when you're in a mad dash. Forget those elaborate Pinterest braids that take an hour; we need speed and staying power! 1. The Classic Slicked-Back Bun: This is my absolute favorite for its elegance and security. Start by thoroughly brushing the hair to remove tangles. Then, pull all the hair into a high ponytail. For a super smooth look, I sometimes apply a tiny bit of gel (or even a dab of my spouse's hair pomade in a pinch!) around the hairline. Twist the ponytail tightly and coil it around its base, securing with bobby pins. Finish with a generous mist of strong-hold hairspray. Pro tip: a hairnet over the bun adds extra security! 2. The Double French Braid (or Dutch Braid): If your child has longer hair and you want something a bit more elaborate but still secure, two French (or Dutch) braids are fantastic. Part the hair down the middle and create a braid on each side, starting from the hairline and braiding all the way down. Secure with clear elastics. This style keeps hair completely out of their face and looks beautiful under stage lights. Plus, it holds up really well through jumps and turns. 3. The High Ponytail with a Twist: Sometimes, simplicity is key. A super high, tight ponytail can be incredibly effective. To elevate it, you can take a small section of hair from underneath the ponytail, wrap it around the elastic, and secure it with a bobby pin. This hides the elastic and gives a polished finish. Again, hairspray is your best friend here! And for us moms? While the kids are getting their final touches, I'm usually doing a quick GRWM for myself. My hair usually gets a quick brush-through and into a simple low bun or a neat ponytail because, let's face it, my focus is on them! I'll quickly pat on some foundation and a little lipstick (maybe a product like 'FORGET THE FILLER' for a quick plump!). It's all about looking presentable without taking away from the main event. What are your go-to recital hair hacks?
