My Tasmania itinerary part 2

Stayed overnight at coles bay so we can continue to visit freycinet national park the next day

Day 5: Freycinet National Park & Richmond

Early Morning:

Sleepy Bay

Honeymoon Bay

Cape Tourville Lighthouse (we woke up early to catch sunrise here! great sunrise spot!)

Afternoon:

Stopped at Kate’s Berry Farm (no berries in season, but the berry gelato was delicious!).

Drove to Richmond—quaint town with an old convict bridge.

Ate at Czegs’ Café (famous for Russian honey cake!).

Stayed overnight in Triabunna (for Maria Island the next day).

Day 6: Maria Island Adventure

Took the 10am ferry to Maria Island & returned at 4:15pm.

Rented bikes (but some hills were too steep—had to walk them). Would recommend biking only if you are comfortable with slopes. Otherwise, you can just walk (it may be abit more rushed to see the spots). There are no food shops in the island so you gotta bring your own food! no cars are allowed too

Highlights:

✔ Darlington Bay

✔ Painted Cliffs (must check low tide timings with the staff! otherwise you cannot go on the cliff)

✔ Fossil Cliffs

✔ Wildlife spotting—so many wombats & even a Forester kangaroo!

Evening:

Drove back to Hobart Airport area for our flight the next day.

Note:

- sun sets really early in winter so you gotta wake up early to make full use of the day

- be careful of wildlife on the road! especially if you are driving in the night!! we almost bang a wallaby when driving to port arthur from hobart

- remember to purchase the national park holiday pass for a vehicle 🚗 you will need it to visit mountains like cradle mountain, freycinet national park etc (though they did not specifically check mine. you will get fined if you are caught without a pass)

... Read moreTasmania is renowned for its breathtaking natural landscapes and unique wildlife, making it an ideal destination for travelers seeking both adventure and tranquility. This itinerary focuses on three exceptional destinations: Freycinet National Park, Richmond, and Maria Island, each offering distinct experiences. Frecyaniet National Park is famous for its crystal-clear waters and granite peaks. Sleepy Bay and Honeymoon Bay provide stunning coastal views and opportunities for leisurely walks or beach activities. Sunrise at Cape Tourville Lighthouse is highly recommended, offering spectacular photo opportunities as the daylight breaks over the rugged Tasmanian coastline. Visitors planning to explore must remember to obtain a national park holiday pass for vehicle access to avoid fines. Richmond is a charming town steeped in colonial history, highlighted by the well-preserved convict-built Richmond Bridge. Aside from historical exploration, local delights such as Czegs’ Café's Russian honey cake and Kate’s Berry Farm gelato offer authentic Tasmanian flavors, even when berries are out of season. Maria Island, accessible by a mid-morning ferry, offers a unique island adventure. Known for its Painted and Fossil Cliffs, visitors should coordinate with ferry staff to time their visit according to low tide schedules to fully experience the cliffs. This vehicle-free island encourages eco-friendly exploration through biking or hiking. However, some hills may challenge cyclists, so walking is a practical alternative. The island is also a sanctuary for native wildlife, including wombats and Forester kangaroos, providing ample wildlife watching opportunities. Travelers should prepare for early sunsets, especially in winter, by starting their days early to maximize sightseeing. Caution is advised when driving at night due to wildlife crossings, a common hazard in Tasmania’s rural areas. Bringing your own food to Maria Island is necessary, as there are no shops on the island. This itinerary is ideal for those looking to combine Tasmania’s natural wonders with historical insights and comfortable overnight stops, ensuring a well-rounded road trip experience filled with scenic views, wildlife encounters, and cultural exploration.
