any doodle parents on here ??
Seeing my sweet girl turn one has been such an incredible journey, and if you're a fellow doodle parent, you probably know exactly what I mean! The first year with a doodle is a whirlwind of fun, learning, and endless cuddles. For anyone considering or already raising a doodle, especially a golden doodle, there are so many unique joys and tips I’ve picked up along the way. One of the first things you notice about doodles is their incredible personalities and that gorgeous, often curly fur. My girl’s fluffy coat is one of her defining features, and keeping it neatly groomed is definitely a commitment! We've learned that regular brushing is key to prevent matting, and those cute pink clips aren't just for show – they help keep her hair out of her eyes. Professional grooming every 6-8 weeks has been a lifesaver, but even then, at-home care is essential to maintain that beautiful coat. It's all part of the daily routine for a happy, healthy doodle. The first year is also packed with milestones. From tiny puppy antics to becoming a confident, playful companion, it's amazing to watch them grow. Training is vital, and doodles, particularly golden doodles, are known for their intelligence, friendly disposition, and eagerness to please. Positive reinforcement works wonders, making training sessions enjoyable for both of you! We’ve spent countless hours on walks, playing fetch, and just enjoying her goofy personality. Socialization early on helped her become the well-adjusted dog she is today, comfortable with everything from wearing sparkly reindeer antlers for holiday photos to posing with a big '1' balloon on her birthday. Speaking of birthdays, celebrating special occasions with your doodle is one of the biggest joys! For her first birthday, we made sure she felt like the queen she is. A cute blue party hat, a special treat with a candle, and being surrounded by her favorite festive dog toys – a gingerbread man, a nutcracker, a pig, and a sheep – made her day extra special. These moments are what make all the effort worthwhile. Seeing her happy, with her tongue out, surrounded by toys, reminds me why I'm so obsessed. Doodles bring so much love and laughter into a home. They thrive on companionship and are truly part of the family. Their gentle nature, often inherited from their Golden Retriever or Poodle lineage, makes them wonderful family pets. Whether it's snuggling on a white blanket with her red heart tag or just gazing at you with those soulful eyes, their affection is boundless. They need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to keep them happy and out of mischief, but their loyalty and joyful spirit make them the most wonderful companions. Every day is an adventure with my fur baby, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. If you're a doodle parent, what are your favorite memories from their first year? Share your tips below!
