Book corner 📚

This week I have been working on my boys’ room. I recently saw the idea to do themes for book shelf areas and I have decided to jump on the bandwagon for October! I’m so excited to go searching for Halloween themed books and decorations (maybe make some) and add to this space of theirs. I’m thinking a little reading nook/bench would be super cute to add here too! Thoughts? 🤔 We are not a huge book reading family But I know it’s super important in my kids’ development and growing so I am hoping this gets us all excited to add this to our daily routine! #bookcorner #themebookshelves #kidsroom #inspohome #makereadingfun

... Read moreHey everyone! I'm so thrilled you're following along on my journey to create the ultimate cozy book corner in my boys' room. Building on my initial idea of Halloween-themed shelves, I've been diving deeper into how to make this space truly special and inviting for my little ones. It's not just about books; it's about fostering a love for reading! First off, let's talk more about those themed bookshelves. Beyond October's spooky fun, imagine how exciting it would be to switch out themes every few months! Think about a "Winter Wonderland" theme with snowy animal books and twinkling fairy lights, or a "Jungle Adventure" with vibrant green decor and stories about safari animals. For those of us using practical white wall-mounted shelves, like the ones holding my colorful children's books, these themes are super easy to implement. You can use small, inexpensive decorations, plush toys that fit the theme, or even DIY garlands. I love the idea of incorporating a fun, personalized touch, maybe even a small sign that reflects their personalities, like the "BOYS WILL BE BOYS" sign I saw that would fit perfectly above their collection. It's all about making the display itself a part of the adventure. Next, creating that dream reading nook. I'm picturing a spot that just begs them to curl up with a book. Location is key here – a quiet corner, perhaps near a window for natural light during the day. For seating, while a dedicated bench is lovely, don't overlook other comfy options. A big beanbag chair, a floor cushion, or even an existing piece like a wooden rocking chair with a soft, patterned pillow can become the heart of your cozy book corner. Add a soft rug for warmth and texture, and make sure there's good lighting for evening reading – a cute bedside lamp or a string of fairy lights can do wonders. Don't forget easy access to their favorite children's books! Open shelves or even a simple fabric bin next to the seating can keep stories within reach. Now, about those books! For my Halloween theme, I'm hunting for books that are "spooky cute" rather than scary. Think "Room on the Broom," "Pete the Cat: Trick or Treat," or "Stumpkin." But beyond themes, truly engaging kids means choosing books they'll genuinely love. Take them to the library or bookstore and let them pick out stories that catch their eye. Don't be afraid to reread favorites a hundred times – repetition builds familiarity and confidence. And remember, reading aloud, even for older kids, is a fantastic way to bond and model good reading habits. We're not a huge book-reading family yet, but I'm hoping this new, inviting space will change that. Turning off screens for 20-30 minutes each evening for "book time" in our new nook is my goal. Whether it's independent reading or sharing a story together, every little bit helps. It’s amazing how a dedicated, comfortable space can transform reading from a chore into a cherished daily ritual for growing minds.
