It’s the small things sometimes

I’m not a poet by any means, and I don’t claim to be (no publications coming from me anytime soon lol)

BUT

I do find that writing, however good or bad I think it is, helps me plant my feet back on the ground when life is hard or I’m overwhelmed or just need to take a break from whatever is keeping me stuck in my head. It also helps me get back to feeling inspired and motivated when everything else is beating me down. And I figured I’d share a more vulnerable part of me, chicken-scratch and all, since that’s what I do with my account is just share what I like and do in my little life on my corner of the planet.

Life has been hard lately, and I’ve been neglecting the outlets that help me put my feet back on the ground, and today I finally picked this back up and decided it was time to take care of myself for a second since I haven’t wanted to write anything without a prompt otherwise. I threw headphones on, flipped to this page, and just started to go at it. I think I only spent 15 minutes on this from start to finish, and such a small amount of time feels so minimal for me to put it off like I do, but I finally did something just for me and here we are.

Sorry for the ramble! <3

Do you write? How do you take care of yourself when life gets hard?

... Read moreHey everyone! Building on my last post about finding solace in writing, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into the specific journal that’s been my anchor lately: Whitney Hanson’s 'In Poetry We Say… journal'. You might have seen glimpses of it in my photos, but it's truly more than just a pretty notebook. If you’re like me and sometimes feel overwhelmed by the idea of 'writing' – thinking it has to be perfect or profound – this journal is a breath of fresh air. Whitney Hanson, known for her raw and honest poetry, has created something that truly encourages authentic expression. It’s designed around the philosophy of 'no first draft, just whatever comes to mind.' This was a game-changer for me because it instantly removed the pressure I usually put on myself. There are some gentle prompts, but mostly, it’s about giving yourself permission to just write. My routine often involves just 'picking a random page,' putting on some headphones, and letting my thoughts flow. Sometimes it’s a stream of consciousness, sometimes it's literally just rehashing my day, or exploring a single feeling that’s been nagging at me. The beauty is, it’s just for *me*. There's no audience, no judgment, and absolutely no need for it to be coherent or grammatically correct. It’s pure, unfiltered 'personal writing for mental well-being.' I’ve found that this type of expressive writing is incredibly therapeutic. When life gets overwhelming, and I feel like I'm stuck in my head, taking even 10-15 minutes to just write helps me process emotions in a way that simply thinking about them doesn't. It’s like decluttering my brain. I literally feel my shoulders relax, and my mind clears up, much like the feeling of having a good, honest chat with a trusted friend. It helps me acknowledge my feelings, identify patterns in my thoughts, and sometimes, even stumble upon solutions to problems I didn't realize I was carrying. For anyone interested in trying it, don't overthink it. You don't need to be a poet, or even a 'good' writer. Just grab a pen, open to any page, and start writing. Write about your day, your worries, your joys, or even just what you see around you. The goal isn't to create something beautiful, but to release what’s inside. It's amazing what clarity can emerge when you simply allow yourself to write without a filter. If you've been searching for a simple yet powerful self-care practice, especially if you appreciate Whitney Hanson’s accessible approach to poetry and emotion, I highly recommend giving 'In Poetry We Say' a try. It’s become an essential tool in my quest to feel more grounded and inspired.
