Do you have compassion for you?!! Leave a comment

... Read moreHey everyone! I'm so excited to share more about how I've truly embraced self-compassion in my daily life. The 8 steps I mentioned earlier have been game-changers, but sometimes, it's the little things, those specific 'self-compassion techniques,' that make all the difference. One technique I swear by, especially when that inner critic starts to get loud, is what I call a 'self-compassion pause.' It's inspired by mindful awareness (Step 3 in my guide). When you notice a wave of self-criticism hitting you, simply pause. Take three deep breaths. Acknowledge the feeling without judgment, just like you would for a friend. Then, gently ask yourself, 'What do I need right now?' Sometimes it's comfort, sometimes it's understanding. This simple pause can interrupt the negative spiral and help you reconnect with kindness. For those moments when you're recognizing and acknowledging self-critical thoughts (Step 1), journaling has been incredibly powerful for me. It's not just writing down what you think, but exploring why you think it. For example, if I catch myself thinking, 'I'm not good enough,' I'll write it down, and then ask, 'Where did this thought come from? Is it truly factual, or is it a belief I picked up somewhere?' This helps me challenge negative beliefs and reframe self-critical thoughts with more compassion. Cultivating self-compassion (Step 4) isn't always easy, but affirmations can be a wonderful tool. Instead of just saying 'I am worthy,' which can feel forced sometimes, try gentler ones like, 'I am doing my best,' or 'I offer myself kindness in this moment.' Pair this with a quick 'self-compassion break' – maybe stepping away for five minutes to listen to calming music, or simply giving yourself a warm hug (yes, really!). It feels a bit silly at first, but it truly helps to nurture yourself. Finally, don't underestimate the power of engaging in self-care practices (Step 6). This isn't just bubble baths (though those are great!). It's about creating a consistent 'self compassion routine' that supports your well-being. This could mean setting boundaries, getting enough sleep, nourishing your body, or spending time in nature. Remember the 'Love Yourself' message in the sand, and the idea of writing 'Believe in Yourself'? It’s a constant reminder that these practices are foundational to inner peace and believing in yourself. Slowly, these small actions build up, transforming your inner dialogue and empowering you to live with more kindness towards yourself. It's a journey, not a destination, but every step makes a difference!
