Learn from my mistakes 🤧

... Read moreBaby-led weaning (BLW) is an exciting yet sometimes challenging journey for new parents. It's a method that encourages self-feeding with solid pieces of food instead of purees, promoting fine motor skills and healthy eating habits from the start. However, as many parents learn through trial and error, some common pitfalls can hinder progress or create unnecessary worry. One crucial tip is the order of foods introduced. Starting with sweet fruits can lead to a baby favoring sugary tastes, making it harder to accept vegetables later on. Instead, leading with iron-rich foods and a variety of vegetables helps build a balanced palate and supports essential nutrient intake. Additionally, introducing allergenic foods early—between 4 to 6 months—is proven to reduce the risk of allergies by up to 80%, countering the old fear of delaying these foods. Understanding the difference between gagging and choking is vital for safety and peace of mind. Gagging is a natural reflex that helps prevent choking and can be loud or alarming but doesn't require intervention. Choking, however, is silent and demands immediate action. Having this knowledge allows parents to stay calm and confident during mealtime. When preparing food, size matters too. Offering larger pieces that babies can grasp and squish with their gums is safer than small, hard pieces that might pose a choking hazard. Patience is also key — it often takes 10 to 15 tries for a baby to accept new foods, so persistence without pressure can prevent picky eating. Flavorful foods are another often overlooked aspect. Babies can enjoy herbs, spices, and healthy oils from six months onward, helping them develop varied taste preferences. There’s no need to limit meals to bland offerings, which may lead to fussiness later. It's important not to believe that expensive baby food products are necessarily better. Real whole foods, prepared safely, provide all the nutrition a baby needs. Lastly, trusting your baby’s instincts and abilities can make feeding a more relaxed and enjoyable experience for both of you. Tracking meals with apps designed for baby nutrition can further assist in ensuring a balanced diet, confidence in food choices, and awareness of allergen introduction. Embracing these guidelines and learning from common mistakes can make baby-led weaning a rewarding journey toward lifelong healthy eating habits.

I will say, #4 depends on the food. You never want to give them something big where if they take a bite too big, it won’t smash or dissolve in their throat. For example, watermelon or avocado is a great experiment food since they form or break down easily if they were to get stuck in a throat. But a cracker or broccoli wouldn’t be since they’re hard and don’t break down. Great info though!

Cleaning mistakes I made so you don’t have to 🚫🫧
I used to think cleaning meant strong smells, tons of products, and scrubbing until I was exhausted. If I’m being honest, I also thought I was “bad at cleaning”, when really, I was just doing it the hard way. As a mom, my time and energy are limited. I learned (sometimes the expensive way) that
