EVERY new mom needs to learn this before feeding their baby 🥰

Based on experiences shared by pediatricians and parents, it’s helpful to know some key feeding strategies that support healthy development and reduce stress. For instance, introducing water in small amounts around 6 months during meals is great for hydration and helps prevent constipation. While many tend to start babies off with sweet fruits, it's worth noting that beginning with sweeter foods can result in picky eating habits later on. Instead, offering a variety of flavors including vegetables early on encourages better acceptance and reduces future food aversions. Textures play a crucial role too. Purees without any texture can limit a baby’s chewing skills. From 8 to 9 months, introducing purées that include soft lumps or finger-sized strips of food can help develop safe chewing and motor skills. Interestingly, slightly larger pieces are often easier for babies to handle than tiny bits since they can grip larger strips effectively once their pincer grasp develops. Introducing common allergens early and repeatedly is another important insight. This approach, when done safely at home, can lower the risk of allergic reactions by up to 80%, according to research. Monitoring and tracking foods and reactions through tools like the Tummi app can make this process safer and more manageable. Understanding gagging versus choking is key—gagging is a normal part of learning to eat solid foods and helps babies learn safe swallowing. It’s a sign that they’re exploring and developing their skills, whereas choking is silent and more serious. Finally, iron is a nutrient that matters enormously once a baby’s stores run low around 6 months. Ensuring babies get iron-rich foods supports healthy growth and development. Encouraging exploration rather than pressuring babies to eat creates a relaxed environment that promotes better eating habits overall. From my own experience, embracing these insights helped me feel more confident and less anxious during feeding times. It’s all about patience, variety, and creating positive mealtime experiences that set the foundation for a lifetime of healthy eating habits.

The veggie one is the best advise I got almost two years ago from my ped. A lot of my friends have kids that are picky eaters but I genuinely believe bc I started with veggies like spinach & kale, that’s why they’ll eat anything! Love this
