Night routine as a broke SAHM
because daycare costs more than I make a month, here is my night routine with a 10-month-old as a broke stay at home mom
Navigating nighttime routines as a broke stay-at-home mom (SAHM) comes with its own set of challenges, especially when daycare costs outweigh monthly income. From my personal experience with a 10-month-old, I've found that establishing a consistent bedtime routine not only soothes the baby but also helps me manage my energy levels throughout the evening. I start by creating a calming environment around the baby’s bedtime, dimming the lights and reducing loud noises to help signal that it's time to wind down. This mimics the calming cues referenced indirectly in routines involving simple sensory elements like soft toys or familiar blankets. Although expensive products can be tempting, I rely on affordable household items to maintain comfort—for example, wrapping my baby in a warm blanket and using a white noise app, which is free and effective. Since daycare is not financially viable, much of my day, including the night, revolves around balancing care and rest. I find that keeping to a regular schedule with feeding, bath time, and quiet play before sleep creates a rhythm that benefits my baby’s sleep quality and my peace of mind. It also means I can plan my tasks around her sleep windows and preserve time for self-care or other responsibilities. Managing on a tight budget forces creativity; DIY baby products or swapping baby gear with other parents has saved money without compromising care. Engaging moms’ communities online has also been a helpful resource for sharing tips and support. Ultimately, a night routine for a broke SAHM is about consistency, patience, and using available resources wisely to ensure both mother and child feel secure and rested, even without the luxury of paid daycare services.
