The gear obsession is real too—I've spent a fortune on lightweight backpacks, moisture-wicking clothes, and ultralight tents. It’s funny because we happily invest in these items to make hiking easier yet might grumble about carrying groceries up a single flight of stairs. Yet hauling a 15kg pack up a mountain seems like a natural challenge rather than a chore. One reason why this hiker logic makes so much sense is the different mindset hiking cultivates. It’s not just physical exercise but a mental reset from daily life stresses. We push ourselves in the mountains because we want to grow stronger and experience freedom, which contrasts with everyday inconveniences that seem petty by comparison.
