While I wasn't the biggest fan of the Live Action remake of The Little Mermaid, Halle was definitely one of the few net positives I enjoyed in the film. She sounded so ethereal and looked and had Ariel's mannerisms which filled my heart with glee. Still disappointed of the lack of wardrobes she got, especially the gowns. Halle would've devour and I would be here for it!

The illustration of Ariel from the 2023 film, with her dark skin and *long red hair*, truly came to life through Halle. Her purple seashell bra and the way her shimmering green and purple mermaid tail moved through the water were visually stunning, creating a vibrant and majestic portrayal. She even managed to make holding a fork look endearing and comical, perfectly mirroring the original animated character's charm and her endearing awkwardness in the human world. Her ability to convey so much without words, relying on her eyes and body language, was truly remarkable. However, if there's one thing I sincerely wished for, it was more wardrobe changes! The original Ariel had some truly iconic looks that were pivotal to her story – her sparkling blue dress for dinner, the beautiful pink gown she wears when exploring the town, and of course, her stunning wedding dress. I kept imagining how Halle, with her incredible grace and presence, would have utterly devoured these looks. It felt like such a missed opportunity not to see her in a wider array of human outfits that could have further showcased Ariel's journey and her transition into the human world. A few more elegant or playful gowns would have added so much to her character's visual storytelling and perhaps even offered some subtle nods to the animated classic, which fans would have adored. It's not just about fashion; these outfits often symbolize key moments in her discovery of the human world. Despite that minor critique, Halle Bailey's portrayal of Ariel was, without a doubt, a highlight. She brought a fresh yet deeply respectful interpretation to a beloved character, making The Little Mermaid 2023 an unforgettable cinematic experience for many, myself included. It’s amazing how she managed to balance the familiar traits of Ariel with her own unique charm, solidifying her place as a memorable Disney princess.
