From the moment I stepped into Mouriya Gion, the ambiance was just right – elegant yet welcoming. We were seated at a counter, giving us a front-row view of our chef expertly preparing our meal. It's not just a dinner; it's a performance, an art form. The chef was incredibly skilled and attentive, explaining each step and answering all our questions about the beef's origin and preparation. The star of the show, of course, was the Kobe Beef steak. I opted for a sirloin cut, and my companion chose a tenderloin, so we could try both. The marbling on the raw cuts was simply stunning, looking like delicate snowflakes against the vibrant red meat. When it hit the teppanyaki grill, the aroma was heavenly. Each piece was cooked to perfection, a beautiful crust on the outside, and incredibly tender and juicy on the inside. The first bite was an absolute revelation – it literally melted in my mouth, bursting with rich, buttery flavor. It wasn't just meat; it was an experience of unparalleled texture and taste. Don't be afraid to ask your chef questions; they're usually happy to share insights. While it's an investment, it’s an unforgettable meal that’s worth every penny for food enthusiasts. Also, consider trying one of their set menus; they often include delicious starters and sides that complement the steak perfectly. While the Kobe Beef was undoubtedly the peak of my Japan food journey, my culinary explorations didn't stop there. I also had some fantastic IZAKAYA in Japan, savoring various small plates and local drinks. And my adventure continued into Vietnam, where I indulged in the unique flavors of Saigon. Eating at PIZZA 4P in Saigon was a delightful surprise with their artisanal pizzas, and I definitely recommend checking out the creative brews and incredible DUCK FAT FRIES and FISH SAUCE WINGS at PASTEUR STREET BREWING in Saigon. It’s a completely different vibe, but equally memorable. Each place offered a distinct taste of the local culture and cuisine, making it a truly enriching travel experience. But when it comes to a single, show-stopping dish, that Kobe Beef steak at Mouriya Gion absolutely took the crown.
