Having faced what seemed like a near loss, I have a renewed appreciation for the precious time we share with our loved ones. In many Latina families, grandparents play a central role – they are the pillars of tradition, love, and guidance. My Cuban heritage adds a rich cultural layer to this bond, celebrating with music, food, and stories that connect generations. The gratitude I feel each day for my abuela’s protection and presence in my life cannot be overstated. Navigating through her ICU experience was emotionally intense but also deepened our family’s unity and appreciation for life. It reminded me how important it is to cherish moments with our abuelos and abuelas, to support them, and to honor their wisdom. This experience has inspired me to share more about the strength found in family ties and cultural roots, especially within diverse communities such as the Latina and Cuban families.
