Travel Tips

✨ Tip 1: go during the week

How it helped me: it’s so much less crowded especially in the summer

✨ Tip 2: always carry water

How it helped me: it can get super hot so always carry a water bottle or camelback

✨ Tip 3: stay outside the park

How it helped me: it might be a commute but it’s a lot easier to find a place to stay then inside the park

From my own visits, one of the best strategies to beat the crowds is planning your hikes and sightseeing on weekdays. The park is popular, and weekends often mean busy trails and crowded viewpoints, which can detract from the natural beauty and tranquility. Another important tip is staying well-hydrated. Yosemite summer temperatures can soar, especially in the valley. I always carry a reusable water bottle or a Camelbak hydration pack with me. It not only keeps you refreshed but also helps prevent heat exhaustion during longer hikes or outdoor activities. Make sure to refill your water supply at designated stations within the park. Accommodation can be tricky due to high demand in peak season. While staying inside the park offers convenience, I found that booking lodging outside Yosemite, such as in nearby towns like Mariposa or Oakhurst, can be a game changer. Although this involves a daily commute, these locations often provide more affordable and readily available options with less stress over booking. Additionally, don’t miss iconic spots like Yosemite Falls and the Grizzly Giant, a famous giant sequoia tree. Each visit to these landmarks offers a unique perspective depending on the season and time of day. For relaxation after a day of exploring, places like the Tenaya Lodge’s Scent Spa can provide a serene retreat. Lastly, remember to plan your visit according to the activities you prefer. Whether it’s kayaking in the Merced River, hiking the Mist Trail, or simply soaking in the panoramic views, proper planning and preparation will enhance your Yosemite summer getaway.
