kind yet true to ourselves🥰

Read moreWhen I first started my journey towards self-awareness, I genuinely believed that being a 'kind person' meant always saying yes, always putting others first, and never causing any discomfort. Sound familiar? It was exhausting! I found myself constantly drained, resentful, and feeling like my own needs were invisible. That's when I realized the true meaning of kindness – it starts with *yourself*. It’s a common misconception that being kind means being a pushover. But true kindness is much more nuanced. It involves compassion, empathy, and understanding, not just for others, but for your own well-being too. I’ve learned that you can absolutely be kind and still say no, set boundaries, and protect your time & space. In fact, doing so allows you to show up as a more authentic, energized, and genuinely kind person for those who truly matter. So, how do you become a kinder person without sacrificing yourself? For me, it began with understanding that kindness to oneself isn't selfish; it's essential. Think of it this way: if your cup is empty, you have nothing left to pour for others. Being kind to myself means recognizing my limits, honoring my energy levels, and not feeling guilty for needing a break. Setting boundaries might feel 'unyielding' at first, especially if you're used to always accommodating others. But it's actually an act of radical self-kindness. For example, if a friend consistently asks for favors that drain your energy, a kind response isn't always 'yes.' It could be, 'I care about you, but I can't help with that right now as I need to protect my own time for my priorities.' This isn't pushing someone away; it's communicating your needs respectfully. It’s an example of being kind to others by being honest, while also being kind to yourself. Here’s some strong advice I received: practice saying 'no' to small things first. It builds confidence. You don't need elaborate excuses. A simple, 'I appreciate you thinking of me, but I won't be able to make it' is perfectly sufficient. This protects your time & space, which are precious resources. Embracing this mindset has brought so much peace into my life. When you clearly define what you can and cannot do, you prevent misunderstandings and build healthier relationships. People who truly respect you will understand and appreciate your honesty. For anyone struggling with the idea that 'I tried but you pushed me away,' remember that protecting your peace isn't pushing people away; it's drawing a line for your own well-being. A truly kind person understands that everyone deserves respect, including themselves. This journey towards self-kindness and boundary-setting really does lead to a more peaceful life.
