Slow summer days with kids
spent the day home with mom and sister, spent LOTS of time outside yesterday from walks to jumping on trampoline to swinging in the swings all up until bedtime
Summer offers a wonderful opportunity to slow down and truly appreciate simple moments with kids. I’ve found that dedicating a full day to outdoor activities not only keeps children physically active but also strengthens family bonds. For instance, starting our day with a nature walk helps the kids burn off energy while observing the changing seasons and wildlife around us. It’s fascinating to watch their curiosity and questions bloom. One of the highlights for many kids is the trampoline. It's a fantastic way to engage them in fun exercise that feels like play rather than a workout. Monitoring safety while encouraging energetic bouncing creates a sense of adventure right in the backyard. Similarly, swings bring back a timeless joy—whether it’s the thrill of soaring or the soothing rhythm that helps kids relax after an active day. Balancing these activities with quiet moments, like simply sitting together after playtime as the sun sets, can foster a calming routine and deepen connections. Incorporating these slow-paced days encourages children to appreciate the outdoors and develop a stronger relationship with nature, which benefits their physical and emotional well-being. This kind of family time is invaluable, especially in busy seasons when screen time often dominates. If you’re looking to replicate this experience, remember the key is variety and presence. Mixing different activities like walking paths, trampoline bouncing, and swing time keeps kids engaged and excited. And by being fully present—putting away distractions and truly joining in their play—the day becomes much more meaningful for both parents and children.
