Anki review session 1 complete! 🌟

Planning to use the next session for new cards since the deck is light—179 cards down so far. #premed

2025/1/14 Edited to

... Read moreSo, I just wrapped up my first Anki review session, and honestly, it feels great to get started! Using Anki for my premed studies is a game-changer, especially with how much material there is to cover. I'm already planning my next session for new cards, and I wanted to share some thoughts on how I'm approaching this, and some tips I've picked up that might help you too, especially if you're wondering how to get the most out of this powerful tool. One of the biggest benefits of spaced repetition, which Anki uses, is how it helps you move information from short-term to long-term memory. Instead of cramming, Anki smartly schedules reviews for when you're about to forget something. This means less time wasted on things you already know well, and more focus on areas where you need practice. It’s truly amazing for subjects like anatomy or pharmacology where sheer recall is essential. For organization, I'm finding that knowing how to make subdecks in Anki is incredibly useful. It keeps everything neat, whether I'm studying specific topics from a class or integrating resources like UWorld. Speaking of which, many premed students find uworld2anki incredibly effective, by either making their own cards from UWorld questions or using community-made decks. This way, you're not just reviewing facts, but also reinforcing concepts learned from practice questions. Sometimes, you might find yourself asking, why is my Anki retention so low? I've learned that making concise, clear cards from the start is key. Avoid putting too much information on one card. Also, consistency is crucial. Even if it's just for 15-20 minutes, reviewing daily, just like I'm aiming for on my schedule (like my 'Spring 2025 Day 9 10:00 AM' slot!), makes a massive difference. If your card load feels overwhelming, you can adjust your settings or use custom study session Anki to focus on specific tags or review forgotten cards. Don't be afraid to tweak your daily how to increase Anki card limit to a manageable number – quality over quantity always wins! And for those visual learners out there, how to use image occlusion enhanced is a lifesaver. I'm planning to use it for complex diagrams, anatomical structures, or even recalling specific parts of a process. It lets you hide parts of an image and test your recall, which is much more engaging than just text. Ultimately, Anki is a marathon, not a sprint. It's about building a consistent habit and trusting the spaced repetition algorithm. Keep experimenting with your card creation, review strategies, and don't get discouraged if some days are harder than others. We're all in this together, trying to make our study sessions as effective as possible!
