I have a TBR section specifically for Dragons

... Read moreHey fellow dragon lovers! Like many of you, after diving deep into the world of How To Train Your Dragon, I found myself with a massive Toothless-shaped void in my heart. Those incredible stories of human-dragon bonds, thrilling adventures, and fierce loyalty left me craving more. While I can't give you a definitive 'HTTYD dragons list' of all the species from Berk (we all know those by heart, right?), I can share how I'm filling that void with some truly epic dragon-themed books! What I loved most about HTTYD wasn't just the dragons themselves, but the rich relationships and the sense of wonder. That's why my TBR list often focuses on specific tropes that hit all the right notes. For instance, if you adore the bond between Hiccup and Toothless, you'll probably swoon over stories featuring 'Possessive/Protective MMC' or 'Fated Mates' where the dragon (or dragon shifter!) connection is intense and undeniable. I've been eyeing books with 'Dragon Shifters' because imagine your favorite dragon in human form – talk about a fun twist! Take 'When the Moon Hatched' by Sarah A. Parker, for example. The 'Star-Crossed Lovers' and 'Forbidden Love' tropes mentioned for it immediately make me think of the epic stakes in HTTYD. Or 'A Dawn of Onyx' by Kate Golden, with its 'Morally Grey MMC' and 'Captive Romance' – it makes me wonder if there's a dragon equivalent to something like a Night Fury that's both dangerous and utterly captivating. Even the 'Enemies to Lovers' trope, which popped up for books like 'Firebird' and 'Realm of Thieves,' has that initial tension we saw between Vikings and dragons before they became allies. It's all about that journey from fear or animosity to deep, unbreakable bonds. Beyond the relationships, the magic and immersive world-building are key. Many of these books, like 'A Fire in the Sky' with its 'Royalty and Political Intrigue' or 'Dragonfall' with a 'Chosen One' element, promise grand adventures that can transport you just like Berk did. I always look for a 'Strong FMC' too, because Astrid set the bar pretty high for capable heroines tackling dragon-sized problems! My goal is to find stories that capture that same magic, whether it's a 'Slow-Burn' romance with a dragon or a high-stakes fantasy where dragons are central to the plot. If you're also searching to fill that post-HTTYD emptiness, I highly recommend looking for books that feature these kinds of tropes. It's been my go-to strategy for discovering new favorites. Happy reading, and may your dragon adventures be ever glorious!

Give the Flame and Thorns series by Marion Blackwood a try. I'm book 3 and I'm loving it.
