DIY : Recycle Mens shirt Into Beautiful Top🍋✨

If you have old button downs at home that you want to get rid of, here is a simple sewing tutorial to show you what they could become.✨⚡️

Upcycling your old clothes is the best thing you can do for the environment and your wallet

You’ll need:

Men’s Dress Shirt

¼” Elastic Band

Sewing Machine

Fabric Chalk

Loop Turner

Measuring Tape

Ruler

Straight Pins

Scissors

Steps:

1. begin with deconstructing the original button down shirt. (cut off the collar and neckband, both sleeves, button and buttonhole placket, both shoulder seams, back yoke and both side seams)

2. Use the front piece of the original men’s shirt to make the square neck blouse pattern, then copy the pattern to make the matching piece for the front and also the back piece of the blouse.

3. Make matching facing for the back neckline. Attach the facing to the back neckline with the right sides together.

Flip the facing over the edge, ⅛ in fold and edge topstitch.

4. Make six 1 in x 16 in drawstring straps with the excess fabric, fold in half and sew. Then use a loop turner to flip the drawstring inside out.

5. Attach the tie front drawstring to the center chest opening.

6. Join the front to the back of the blouse by sewing along the side seams.

7. Use the sleeves from the original men’s shirt to make the puff sleeves.

8. Make a casing for the elastic band around the top of the armhole and also the sleeve opening. Use a safety pin to thread elastic through.

9. Sew along the underarm seam to join the sleeves to the bodice.

10. Finish bottom of shirt with 1/4 inch hem

11. Done!
