Artists when the market is not ✨market-ing✨
Friends, comrades, and gentlepersons don't let their artist friends get taken advantage of!We recommend researching shows as much as you can before committing. At this point, 2.5 years in, we've done over 80 shows and noticed some patterns. None of the things we've mentioned are necessarily red flags in isolation, but all together are a no-go for us. Some markets with higher booth fees have really great organizers that put your payment into a stellar marketing campaign while others just...we're not really sure what they're doing 😅
We've avoided a lot of disappointment by visiting annual shows the year before we actually apply to get a sense of the organization, how well they curate so that there aren't a ton of the same type of creations, what kind of art/creations do well with the audience the show attracts, the attendee turnout, and the opportunity to chat with current vendors about their experiences. Take your time and don't rush into events that have flashy facades!
The opportunity to create what you love and share it with people who appreciate your craft is so incredibly fulfilling 💕 We want everyone who chooses this path to have the info they need to make informed decisions and feel as though they have a supportive community they can turn to when they have questions. Connect with other artists as community rather than competition because there is enough on the table for all of us 🧡 #smallbusiness #artist #kingprawn #muppet
