Each character I've played, from the spirited Laura Ingalls Wilder to the adventurous Anne of Green Gables, has taught me something new about myself and the world. Speaking of transformations, playing the 'Dog' in 'Dog's Books Grand Opening' was an absolute blast! It's not every day you get to bark and wag your tail as a central character. I remember practicing my dog mannerisms – the head tilts, the playful pounces – trying to capture that pure, innocent joy an animal brings. It was a physical role, full of energy, and connecting with the audience as a non-human character was a unique challenge. I'm constantly learning, constantly growing with each part. Getting the chance to perform Off-Broadway, as Polly Dyer, was a dream come true – a culmination of years of dedication and passion. It's moments like those, stepping onto a new stage, that remind me why I do what I do. People often ask about the path to becoming a versatile actor, capable of tackling such diverse roles. While specific institutions like the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre have certainly shaped many famous alumni, for me, it's been a blend of formal training, countless workshops, and invaluable practical experience on stages big and small. Learning to embody a character isn't just about memorizing lines; it's about deep dives into understanding psychology, mastering vocal nuances, and developing physical expressiveness. You truly hone the craft of becoming someone else, whether they're a historical figure like Laura Ingalls, an imaginative orphan like Anne, or even a lovable canine. The goal is always to find the authentic truth within the character, no matter how unusual or challenging, and bring that truth convincingly to the audience. It's about being ready for any role that comes your way, embracing the transformation, and relishing the chance to explore the full spectrum of human—and delightfully non-human—experience on stage. That profound connection with a character, and then with the audience, is the real thrill that keeps me coming back to the theater, time and time again.
