... Read moreAs someone deeply interested in the evolution of artificial intelligence, I find Saudi Arabia's approach to AI particularly inspiring and worth sharing. Unlike many regions that are retrofitting AI technologies onto existing legacy systems, Saudi Arabia is pioneering a fresh start by building AI-native enterprises from the ground up. This distinction means their systems are designed from day one to fully integrate AI capabilities, avoiding technical debt and patchwork solutions that can hinder scalability and innovation. A standout project is the ALLaM on watsonx Agentic AI Challenge in Switzerland, which introduced the world’s first enterprise-grade Arabic large language model (LLM). This breakthrough is significant because it enables AI systems to understand and operate within the nuances of the Arabic language, culture, and context—something many global AI models struggle with. As Arabic is one of the most widely spoken languages, this progress opens incredible opportunities for tailored AI applications in the Middle East and beyond. Another exciting development is Riyadh Air, touted as the world’s first AI-native airline. Built from scratch with no legacy baggage, Riyadh Air employs agentic AI across 59 workstreams and collaborates with over 60 partners. This model showcases how AI can revolutionize industries by optimizing operations, enhancing customer experiences, and driving sustainable innovation from inception. What truly excites me is how this transformation transcends technology transfer. Over 500,000 Saudis have been skilled through IBM SkillsBuild initiatives, amplifying human potential alongside AI advancements. This holistic approach emphasizes that AI’s future isn't only about machines but also about empowering people to lead and innovate. For leaders and organizations around the world, Saudi Arabia’s example illustrates a critical inflection point: the choice to be architects of an AI-native future rather than adapters clinging to legacy systems. With infrastructure, talent, and vision rapidly coalescing, the question shifts from "if" AI will transform your industry to "how" and "when" you'll embrace this transformation. In my view, Saudi Arabia’s bold strategy provides valuable lessons for anyone looking to harness AI’s full potential. Starting fresh with AI-native frameworks allows for scalable, seamless innovation that legacy systems often impede. It’s a mindset shift that I believe will be crucial for industries globally as they navigate the coming decade of digital transformation.
