I remember how quickly those 2 and a half years flew by, and how each moment with him was precious beyond measure. Pets become more than animals; they truly are family members who offer unconditional love and companionship. In my experience, grieving a pet involves waves of emotions—from sadness to guilt, to acceptance—and each feeling needs its own time and space. Sharing memories and photos helps keep their spirit alive, while connecting with others who understand can provide comfort. Whether it’s through support groups, online communities, or simply talking with close friends and family, knowing you’re not alone is vital. I also found that creating small rituals, like planting a tree or dedicating a special space in the home, can be healing. It makes the loss a part of life’s ongoing journey rather than an abrupt ending. Remember, it’s okay to grieve deeply because that love Russ gave was deeply meaningful. Grieving teaches us to appreciate the fragility and joy of life, urging us to live fully and love openly. My hope is that by sharing this journey, others who have experienced loss feel seen and understood. Russ taught me so much about loyalty, joy, and the preciousness of time—lessons I’ll carry forward as I honor his memory every day.
