Bucket List Experience: Cooking Classes in Italy🍝
It’s no secret that the colorful picturesque town of Positano along the Amalfi Coast is one of the most popular destinations for a European summer vacation!
The incredible food, jaw dropping landscape and abundance of activities + experiences have made this small town famous around the world!
And who doesn’t want to take a pasta cooking class while in Italy! I mean it’s basically a right of passage at this point, right? One of the most famous cooking classes in this region is at La Tagliata - but the waitlist is quite literally MONTHS long!
Our group unsuccessfully tried for months to get into that class. And just when we had given up on our Italian cooking class experience, while we were walking around the streets of Positano after dinner, we stumbled across a sign in front of a store called Latteria Cookingclass
The next morning we messaged the store, and were able to book the class for our group of 5 - day of! Luck was in our favor and this ended up being a major highlight for our entire trip!
💰Price: €150 pp
While the price is somewhat high, the class is 4+ hours long, you cook and enjoy a delicious 4 course meal from scratch, get a complimentary glass of wine, and are sent home with a new apron, tote bag and cook book! In my opinion, this class was worth every last penny!
Not to mention it’s run by the sweetest and funniest mother daughter duo you’ll ever meet! If you’re looking for a cooking class in Positano, this just might be the one for you!

Dreaming of an authentic Italian cooking class in Positano, Italy, is one thing, but actually securing a spot can be quite another! As many travelers discover, the most popular classes, like the one at La Tagliata, can have waitlists stretching for months. My initial attempts to book were met with similar disappointment, making me almost give up on this bucket-list experience along the stunning Amalfi Coast. But don't despair if your first choice is fully booked! My personal experience taught me that sometimes the best discoveries are made by chance. While Latteria Cookingclass was a lucky find, it highlighted the importance of being open to other amazing, perhaps less-publicized, options in Positano. Many family-run establishments, much like the one I attended, offer incredible hands-on experiences, often focused on cherished family recipes passed down through generations. These smaller classes can provide a more intimate and personal connection to Italian culinary traditions. So, what can you typically expect from a memorable Italian cooking class in Positano? Beyond learning to make fresh pasta from scratch – a rite of passage for any food lover in Italy – these classes often delve into regional specialties. You'll likely work with a variety of fresh, local ingredients, from vibrant tomatoes and fragrant basil to the finest olive oil. Many classes will guide you through creating a multi-course meal, which could include an appetizer, a main dish, and a classic Italian dessert. For instance, my class included making dishes similar to tiramisu, lovingly assembled with ladyfingers, rich cream, and a hint of espresso, all from scratch right on the kitchen counter. The setting itself often enhances the experience. Imagine cooking with a backdrop of Positano's colorful cliffs, perhaps from a charming lemon-decorated terrace. Most classes culminate in enjoying the fruits of your labor, often paired with delightful local Italian wines. It's not just about cooking; it's a cultural immersion, a chance to learn skills, and an opportunity to connect with local hosts, like the wonderful mother-daughter duo I met. They not only shared their culinary wisdom but also stories that made the experience truly unique. When choosing your class, consider what's important to you. Do you want a small group setting or a larger, more social one? Are you interested in specific dishes, perhaps focusing on seafood or vegetarian options? Always check reviews and see if they offer any take-home materials like recipe books, which for me, was a fantastic bonus. Also, don't miss the chance to explore the venue's offerings. Many places that host cooking classes, like the one I found, also feature small shops brimming with local products – think artisan pasta, locally produced limoncello, and a selection of local wines. These make for perfect souvenirs or gifts, extending your Italian culinary adventure long after you've left the Amalfi Coast. Ultimately, investing in a cooking class is an investment in an unforgettable memory and a delicious skill you can bring back home!
