Maine truly lives up to its nickname as 'Vacation Land,' especially during the summer months! If you're looking for an unforgettable escape filled with outdoor adventures and breathtaking scenery, you've hit the jackpot. I recently planned a summer trip there, and let me tell you, it was absolutely magical. Here are some of my favorite things to do in Maine in the summer that I think you'll love too! My absolute favorite was spending a day exploring Peaks Island. It’s just a short ferry ride from Portland, and once you’re there, it feels like another world. We rented bikes right off the ferry and cycled around the entire island, discovering hidden coves, charming little shops, and art galleries. Seriously, don't miss grabbing an ice cream cone with ocean views – it’s the perfect way to soak it all in! When it comes to beaches, Maine has so many gems to choose from. Ogunquit Beach is pristine and perfect for long walks, and I loved strolling along the Marginal Way path – such breathtaking cliffside views! For a more classic New England vibe, York Beach is fantastic, and you absolutely have to stop by Nubble Lighthouse nearby for that iconic photo opportunity. If you're looking for a livelier atmosphere, Old Orchard Beach is where it’s at with its famous pier and amusement park rides. Each beach has its own unique personality, so pick one that suits your mood! Renting a lake house was pure bliss and easily one of the best decisions we made. Imagine waking up to the sound of loons, sipping coffee on your private dock, and then spending the day kayaking or paddleboarding on crystal-clear waters. Evenings were perfect for grilling fresh seafood and making s'mores by a fire pit under a canopy of stars. It’s the ultimate way to unwind and truly connect with Maine’s serene nature, away from the hustle and bustle. And let's talk about the food! You simply can't go to Maine without indulging in a fresh lobster roll – seriously, it's a game-changer. I found some amazing roadside stands and small shacks that served them up perfectly. Don’t forget to try blueberry pancakes or a slice of blueberry pie; Maine blueberries are legendary! And for a sweet treat, a Whoopie Pie is a must-try; it's practically the state dessert! Beyond the specific activities, simply exploring Maine's charming coastal towns is an adventure in itself. Portland is a vibrant city with an incredible food scene and craft breweries – perfect for an evening out. Kennebunkport offers a more upscale, quaint experience with beautiful boutiques and art galleries. Each town has its own unique appeal and history waiting to be discovered, so allow some time for wandering. If you love the outdoors, there are countless hiking trails for all skill levels. Even if you don't make it to Acadia National Park (which is incredible!), many smaller coastal paths offer stunning ocean vistas and opportunities for birdwatching. My personal recommendation is to find a trail that ends with a view of a lighthouse – it's so rewarding! To make the most of your trip, I'd suggest booking accommodations and popular activities in advance, especially for peak summer months. Also, be prepared for varying weather – pack layers! Maine can go from warm and sunny to a bit chilly and foggy quite quickly, adding to its charm.

heading up to Portland this weekend, so excited
