If you love history, art & culture visit this city
📍 City/Country: Rome
Rome is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever visited, and for more than 1 reason. If you love history, art and culture — you will love Rome!
Every inch of Rome is filled with ancient Roman statues and ruins. On our walk to dinner most nights we would walk by so many historical buildings that are now immersed right into the modern day city. We stumbled upon the gorgeous Pantheon by accident!
Be sure to checkout:
- Vatican City for its famous + historical church
- Colosseum for a look at the iconic ancient ruins
- Trevi Fountain to see phenomenal artwork and sculpture on a massive scale

My Roman adventure was truly one for the books, and I wanted to share a bit more about what made it so special, especially for those of you who, like me, are constantly seeking out places rich in history, art, and culture. Beyond the famous landmarks, Rome whispered stories from every cobblestone and fresco, immersing me in layers of time that few other cities can match. What truly struck me about Rome’s architecture was its incredible blend of eras. You walk past an ancient Roman ruin, then a Renaissance palazzo, and then a Baroque fountain, all within a few steps. It’s not just about the big structures like the Colosseum or the Pantheon; it’s about how these historical buildings are seamlessly integrated into modern life. I loved seeing locals going about their day with centuries-old columns as their backdrop. The OCR results mentioning "ancient Roman ruins" and "historical buildings under a blue sky" perfectly capture this feeling – it’s a living museum! Speaking of the Colosseum, visiting it was an absolute highlight. Forget any misconceptions; this isn't some 'gothic' structure but a magnificent testament to Roman engineering and spectacle. Standing inside, I could almost hear the roar of the crowds. It's truly mind-blowing to think about the ingenuity behind such a massive amphitheater. My advice? Go early in the morning to avoid the biggest crowds and truly soak in the scale of it all. You’ll appreciate the sheer artistry and engineering that went into creating such an iconic landmark. For those interested in the broader 'arts & entertainment' aspect, Rome offers so much more than just museums. The city itself is a stage! From street performers near the Trevi Fountain to the vibrant atmosphere in Trastevere's piazzas, there’s a constant flow of cultural experiences. I spent an evening simply wandering and enjoying the live music coming from a cozy restaurant, surrounded by the colorful, flower-decorated facades that give Rome its unique charm, just like the 'Birreria' mentioned in the OCR. The grandeur of a 'historic church with a high, painted ceiling and large columns' – reminiscent of the Vatican – also encapsulates the incredible artistic legacy found throughout the city. To make the most of your trip and truly experience the 'soul' of Rome, I’d recommend exploring some of its lesser-known neighborhoods. While the main attractions are unmissable, some of my most cherished memories came from simply getting lost in the backstreets, discovering hidden fountains, charming local markets, and tiny, authentic trattorias. These are the moments where Rome truly comes alive, offering a deeper dive into its rich culture and allowing you to create your own unique stories amidst the ancient backdrop. Don't rush; let Rome reveal itself to you, one breathtaking historical building and piece of art at a time.
