We visited the Italian coast last summer and it’s a complete dream! The landscapes and vibes are straight out of a movie! There’s so many beautiful towns along the coast it’s hard to choose which one is best for you. We did so much research! While we ultimately ended up staying in + spending most of our time in Positano, we loved our 1 night that we spent in Sorrento and would definitely spend more time here next time! We would probably stay here!!
We loved the dock style beaches and found this town to be much more affordable than the world famous town of Positano — no surprise there. Sorrento has an incredible cliffside view of the coastline and Mount Vesuvius! Plus you can still very easily take a day trip to the anywhere along the Amalfi Coast via the ferry! ⛴️
After my incredible Italian coast trip, I can't stop raving about Sorrento! While Positano is undeniably famous, I truly felt Sorrento offered a more authentic, equally breathtaking, and significantly more affordable experience. If you're hunting for those 'hidden gems' on the Amalfi Coast that don't break the bank, this is absolutely it! What truly captivated me were the unparalleled 'Sorrento coastline views.' Imagine waking up to the sight of dramatic 'cliffs overlooking the sea,' with vibrant 'yellow buildings' like the iconic Hotel Tramontano and Hotel Tasso clinging majestically to the rock face. The scenery is absolutely postcard-perfect, especially at sunset when the light bathes everything in a golden glow, creating an unforgettable 'Sorrento cliff coastline view.' I loved finding little family-run trattorias tucked away on terraces that offered these stunning panoramas – a true, serene 'cliff coastline view' experience without the overwhelming crowds often found elsewhere. Beyond the panoramic vistas, Sorrento offers so much more to explore. The unique 'dock-style beaches' with their lively 'piers' are perfect for sunbathing or a refreshing dip in the clear blue waters. I spent an afternoon simply watching the 'boats in the harbor' come and go, feeling completely immersed in the local rhythm. For me, the real 'hidden gems in Sorrento' weren't just the famous sights, but discovering the quieter corners: strolling through the charming old town's narrow alleys, stumbling upon fragrant lemon groves, and finding artisan shops selling handmade ceramics and delicious limoncello – truly embodying that 'Amalfi yellow' spirit, from the citrus to the colorful architecture. It felt less touristy and more genuinely Italian than I ever expected. One thing that truly sets Sorrento apart is its incredible value. Compared to its more famous neighbors, your euros stretch further here, allowing for more authentic culinary experiences, charming accommodations, and local souvenirs. Plus, let's not forget the sheer convenience! Being able to easily hop on a ferry for a day trip to Capri, Ischia, or other stunning Amalfi towns directly from Sorrento's bustling port was a game-changer. It means you get all the beauty and access to the wider Amalfi Coast, but with the added bonus of Sorrento's unique charm, affordability, and those unforgettable 'Sorrento cliffs overlooking the sea.' My personal takeaway? Sorrento wasn't just a place to visit; it was an experience that truly stole my heart and proved to be the perfect, underrated base for my Italian adventure.
