Travel items I have for safety reasons

Traveling is one of my favorite things to do. But I’m aware that any trip to a new place comes with its risks, here are some items I have and that I think everyone should have, to help ensure safe travel to any new destinations!

1.) an outlet converter — this is great for traveling to foreign countries outside the US. Not all outlets are the same across the world and this ensures you’ll be able to plug in your devices anywhere!

2.) interior door locks — these gadgets make it possible for you to lock your apartment/hotel/airbnb from the inside for an extra layer of security at night. Once you’re inside, just slip this lock on the door!

3.) a hidden camera detector — we’ve all seen the horror stories. This device helps with peace of mind, particularly when renting someone’s personal house/apartment.

4.) a portable charger — this portable battery helps charge my phone on the go, no matter where I am! It’s great to have for long days spent exploring.

... Read moreTraveling is one of my favorite things to do, and I truly believe in being prepared with essential safety items, as I shared in my main post. However, my travel experiences have shown me that when you add kids to the mix, the game changes entirely! Family adventures are incredible, but they demand an extra layer of planning and a slightly different set of safety and comfort essentials. Beyond my personal must-haves like the universal outlet converter (which becomes even more crucial for charging multiple devices like tablets, phones, and even baby monitors!), the interior door locks for securing our family room, and the hidden camera detector for peace of mind in rentals, there are specific items I now swear by when traveling with my little ones. These aren't just about avoiding danger, but about preventing meltdowns, staying healthy, and ensuring everyone enjoys the trip. First up: Snacks, snacks, and more snacks! This might seem obvious, but it’s a non-negotiable for family travel. Delays, unexpected hunger pangs, or picky eaters can derail a day faster than anything. I always pack a mix of healthy, non-perishable options like granola bars, fruit pouches, and crackers. Having these readily available means happy kids and less stress for me, truly a safety net for everyone's mood. Next, extra clothes are an absolute lifesaver. Spills, accidents, or sudden changes in weather can happen at any moment. I always pack at least one full change of clothes for each child (and often a spare shirt for myself!) in a small, easily accessible bag. This keeps them comfortable and hygienic, preventing discomfort that can lead to fussiness or even illness. It's a simple trick but makes a huge difference. Readily available entertainment is my secret weapon against boredom and restlessness. Long flights, car rides, or even just waiting for food at a restaurant can be challenging for kids. I always have a tablet loaded with movies and games (fully charged, of course, thanks to my trusty portable charger!), small puzzle books, or a favorite mini-toy. Keeping them engaged is a form of safety; distracted kids are less likely to wander or cause a scene. A camera (or ensuring my phone camera is always charged – again, portable charger to the rescue!) is essential not just for capturing memories but also for practical purposes. I take photos of important documents, hotel room numbers, and even what my kids are wearing each day if we’re going to a crowded place. Plus, letting them use a child-friendly camera makes them feel involved and keeps them occupied. Finally, sun lotion and hand wipes are absolute non-negotiables. Kids' delicate skin needs constant protection from the sun, especially when exploring new outdoor environments. I apply sun lotion liberally and reapply often. And hand wipes? They are my best friend! From sticky hands after a snack to cleaning up after touching public surfaces, they are vital for maintaining hygiene and preventing germs from spreading, which is particularly important when you're far from home. By integrating these kid-specific items with my general travel safety gear – like ensuring all our devices, including entertainment for the kids, can be charged anywhere with my universal outlet converter, and knowing our family room is extra secure with interior door locks – I've found that family travel becomes not just manageable, but truly enjoyable and worry-free. A little extra planning goes a long way in ensuring everyone’s safety and happiness on the road!
